Terry Pirovolakis & GENE THERAPY
When we were told that our son Jack had SPG50 it was nothing short of devastating. On the darkest day of our lives, however, we were also given a ray of hope. A dad in Canada whose son had SPG50 had been working for years to develop a gene therapy to treat the disease. The gene therapy had the potential to cure Jack.
Canadian hardworking dad Terry Pirovolakis has been searching and fundraising for a cure for SPG50 for his son Michael since 2019 and has gotten a gene therapy clinical trial approved through the American FDA.
Jack’s Corner hopes to continue the momentum of the work conducted by Terry’s team which is comprised of scientists and doctors from UT Southwestern, Boston Children’s Hospital, University of Cambridge, Sick Kids Toronto, the Jackson Laboratory, University of British Columbia, University of Copenhagen, UNC School of Medicine and The National Institutes of Health.
Jack’s Corner will assist with funding for the research, manufacturing, and administration of an exciting gene therapy treatment, called “Melpida”, for kids who have been diagnosed with SPG50.
